Look around you. Who do you think would be a good person to fill a position? Have you told them so?

It’s a wonderful compliment to tell someone you view them as the kind of leader you want.

School board, election/planning/library commission, city council, mayor, state representative, state senate.

When I was an estate-planning attorney, I found great joy in telling couples to make sure they actually asked the people they wanted to name as potential guardians for their children if the parents died.

First, of course, it’s important to know if the answer is “no.”

But telling someone that you think they would be great guardians for your children is perhaps the single most awesome compliment you could give them.

Asking someone to please volunteer or run for office is also a great compliment.
