Michael Hasty is not a serious candidate
Michael Hasty is NOT a serious candidate for Missouri District 135 State Representative
I assume that Mr. Hasty is sincere (if misguided) in his candidacy, and he won a serious share (45%) of the vote as the Republican candidate in 2024.
But he has refused to state any position on the two most significant issues on the August 4 ballot (Amendments 4 and 5) and does not seem to understand the difficulty of the workload that would result for our new representative in Jefferson City if Amendment 5 passes.
His most recent photos posted to his Facebook page were quite disturbing, and suggested to me that he was seeking a “reckless Pete Hegseth” vibe. (After I emailed Mr. Hasty about this, he removed these two photos from Facebook.)

Apart from those photos, Hasty’s Facebook profile was “thin” in content, annually mentioning several charity fundraisers over several years. https://www.facebook.com/michael.hasty.9/
Mr. Hasty ran unsuccessfully in the “nonpartisan” race for Springfield City Council in April 2021 (earning just 17% of the votes for general seat B2).
After losing that election, as “J. Michael Hasty,” he launched “The Queen City Watchdog … a non-profit organization that actively lets the Springfield city government know that they are being watched closely.” Some folks have called this a “hate group.” The group’s Facebook page is no longer visible, and the group’s most recent podcast was in February 2025.

In his “In the Know (w/Queen City Watchdog)” podcast in July 2024 about Pridefest, Hasty said:
- “I don’t know how it’s not illegal to take your kid to a drag show,” (at 25:30). He was outraged that minors were allowed at the public event on the town square, when men in drag were present. “There’s no such thing as a family-friendly drag show, just like there’s no such thing as a family-friendly strip club; they don’t exist and that’s our biggest problem with all that” (at 11:30).
- About The National Avenue Christian Church: “That’s not a Christian Church … people masquerading as pastors and masquerading as churches … I’ll be bold enough to say that I don’t believe that these quote inclusive churches are churches because their entire doctrine goes against the scripture that they claim to preach.” (at 33:50)
- Hasty also criticized The Venues, the Episcopal Church, Community of Christ, the Unitarian Universalist Church (“it’s not a real church”), and other churches represented at Pridefest (45:00).
- “Homosexuality is a sin” (at 34:20).

My early searches could not find Michael Hasty’s campaign Facebook page, because his first name does not appear as text on that page, which is subtitled “A champion for Springfields working-class families” [sic].
Mr. Hasty has worked as a realtor for Murney Associates since March 2025.
Hasty also worked as a supervisor for Elite Security Protection & Services LLC from 2018 to September 2025; as a sales marketer for Branson Travel Group from 2021 to September 2025; and as a scheduling coordinator for HCR ManorCare in 2016-2017.
He served in the U.S. Army from 2005 to 2009, including a 14-month combat tour in Iraq.
He earned an associate degree from Arkansas State University in 2013, and a graduate degree from Capella University in 2019.
